Welcome to My Corner of the Internet
I’m genuinely glad you found your way here. One of the reasons I started this blog was the idea of serendipity. You never know who you’ll bump into when you put yourself and your ideas out there.
To be honest, I’m not the kind of person who’d naturally gravitate towards YouTube (though I did host fitness live streams before they became trendy). Instead, I thought blogging would be the perfect way to share my practical experience building a business, my thinking process, and the messy mindset shifts that come with the corporate to entrepreneur transition.
If you’re considering a similar journey, I understand how intimidating it feels. But given our rapidly changing economy and the technological shifts reshaping our world, this transition might be exactly what we need to thrive in an unpredictable future.
The Curious Economics Nerd Who Became an Entrepreneur
If you’re familiar with Myers-Briggs, I’m an INTJ-T. (While I know personality tests have their critics, I’ve tested consistently as this type since the 1990s, and it captures my essence quite well).
Here’s what drives me:
I’m endlessly curious. I love exploring unfamiliar territories, from human behaviour and quantum physics to astrology, history, and philosophy. Basically, I’m fascinated by how everything works and the ripple effects of our decisions.
Economics shaped my thinking. With a master’s in Economics, I was drawn to understanding human decision-making through all those mathematical models. I’ve always been a micro person, passionate about consumer preferences, industrial organisations, behavioural economics, and game theory. I still read complex theoretical papers occasionally, cherry-picking the parts I understand and bookmarking the rest for when I have time to dig deeper.
I’m a creator at heart. While I’ve been a marketer throughout my career, what really lights me up is figuring out what’s broken and building something new to fix it. Could be a brand overhaul, a business turnaround, a product launch, or the systems that keep my own ventures running. I’m not precious about originality though. I’ll happily borrow what works, then twist it into something that fits my particular constraints and quirks.
I balance thinking with doing. I’m both theoretical and pragmatic. When I need skills or knowledge to achieve something, I simply go and acquire them. Learning is genuinely how I spend my free time (I promise I’m not trying to sound pretentious!).
I embrace my contradictions. While I’m naturally rational, I can be quite sensitive too. I tend to avoid emotional chaos, which probably isn’t always healthy, but it’s part of who I am.
My happy places.A quiet afternoon with a book and coffee. Intimate conversations with close friends over tea and laughter. The satisfaction of mastering a new skill. Solo weekends exploring with my camera.
From Lost Blogs to New Beginnings
I started blogging in the early days of the internet, hand-coding HTML pages as an experiment. Back then, before social media existed, I wrote about gadgets, group fitness routines, and later, my experiences adapting to life and work in China. Sharing these posts on early Facebook connected me with people I’d never have met otherwise, which felt magical.
Life got busy, and through neglect (and technical challenges accessing my WordPress site due to geographical reasons), my original blog vanished into cyberspace. But in 2022, my MA Photography programme rekindled my love for journalling through our Critical Research Journal requirement. This inspired me to start fresh, documenting my entrepreneurial journey while “building in public.” It serves as both my personal reference and, hopefully, a valuable resource for others walking similar paths.
Your Toolkit for the Journey Ahead
Think of this blog as your practical companion for the transition ahead. Each post is designed to solve real problems you’ll face, share shortcuts I’ve discovered, or offer perspective when things get tough. Here’s what I focus on:
Starting and scaling a business (0-1). I focus on business models, practical tools, and beginner-friendly tips from my e-commerce ventures.
Navigating transitions and rewiring mindsets. Leaving your comfort zone for uncharted territory is tough. As someone who spent years in corporate life, I understand the intimidation of starting your own business. I still wrestle with imposter syndrome and perfectionism, but I’ve learned that consistent action is the only way forward.
Tech tools for non-techies. Not everyone can code or afford to hire experts. I’ll show you how I build systems to run my business and leverage AI tools to maximise limited resources. Minimal jargon, maximum templates you can use immediately.
Economics, curiosities, and life rhythms. Sometimes for inspiration, sometimes just for fun, I’ll share insights from my interests and daily routines.
Is This Your Story Too?
If you’re building a business with limited resources, running a solo venture or small team, or rethinking your path and preparing to venture in new directions, we’re in this together. My experiences and insights might help you find shortcuts around common obstacles. And I’d love to learn from your journey too.
This space is my notepad, creative laboratory, thinking room, and collection of helpful ideas.
